WPN CEO Phil Nagy has just announced that the Winning Poker Network has made a ground-breaking discovery in the fight against poker bots. They found out that bots are using graphical data to their advantage and have therefore already implemented measures against this behavior.
A big step in the battle against online poker bots
While there have been rumors regarding the existence of poker bots in the Winning Poker Network since the end of 2018, it was still unclear how they were operating. Several users on twoplustwo stated that they have faced bots at the tables.
The Winning Player Network, however, is actively fighting against these bots. Phil Nagy, CEO of the Winning Poker Network, has now stated that modern poker bots are using screen scraping technology. Therefore they are able to interact with real human players at the poker tables.
The WPN security staff noticed that these bots could read pixels. “Using this information, the programs can determine what cards the user has, what position they are at the table, bet sizes and more”, stated Nagy.
Several graphic updates to fight bots as implemented measures
Soon after the network realized what was happening they have initialized several graphic updates to fight bots.
These updates would go on to prevent bots from gathering such information. Afterward, WPN asked suspicious account owners to prove their identity in order to make sure they weren’t bots.
After bot accounts have been suspended, the network returned more than $450,000 to players who have lost money.
There are several other networks fighting bots and returning funds to their players such as partypoker. Even though it is a hard fight against criminals stealing money the realization that next-generation bots are using screen scraping technology will have an immediate impact.
Poker sites now have to be aware of these new possibilities bots have and they need to take the necessary steps to prevent them from doing so. WPN is dealing with this issue in a straightforward fashion.
Winning Poker Network Reimbursement Policy
Even though a majority of poker sites is battling bots, the Winning Poker Network has taken one of the most transparent, verifiable reimbursement policy. WPN exposes the offending player’s screenname and does its best to calculate reimbursements correctly.
However, players who have been playing against bots should also check their records themselves. They reimburse money won from players by accounts proven to be breaking WPN’s fair play policies. The network reimburses up to a cap of $25,000 per offending player.
Moreover, WPN is also publishing all banned players on their site.
WPN is obviously intensively fighting against bots and doing spending a lot of resources to keep their games fair. Its transparent approach is pretty unique and proves that they take this issue seriously.
