WSOP Adds 2 Extra Day 1s to Accommodate Europeans
The United States government finally ratified its promise to reopen the country to Europeans and a few other countries, but it looked like the November 8 date was too late.
There had been a wave of excitement when the initial announcement stated only November, with many people assuming this meant the first day of the month.
When November 8 was mooted, it looked like dreams of a European bringing home the WSOP Main Event title were over.
Luckily, the WSOP saw fit to take this unprecedented step and it’s now game on again for talent from the European Union and the United Kingdom, plus China, India, Brazil, Iran, and South Africa.
WSOP Schedule Change Provokes Backlash from US Players
Not everybody is happy about this unexpected change to the WSOP schedule. The announcement on the WSOP Twitter account provoked a backlash over potential hotel and travel arrangement changes.
This is pretty shitty for those us that spent 2 hours booking travel arrangements for their family to make the previous schedule work. The extra accommodations should not affect the day 2’s this I messes with hotel and return flights home. It is what it is, but it kinda sucks.

Will there be a revised main event schedule posted? I literally just booked my triptoday based on current schedule 🥶

You realize we all have flights and hotels scheduled for different times because of the schedule you already have. This is incredibly inconsiderate and a pure money grab. This changed everything for us. Scummy! Slimy!

Will the 2021 WSOP Main Event Be a Record-Breaker?
When news about this change hit the headlines, there will have been many players booking flights and hotels in a mad scramble to be able to play.
The question is: will the first post-Covid-19 main event break any records? The current record for entries is 8,773 in 2006 when Jamie Gold won the record prize of $12 million.
Looking at the results table and remembering that 2020 didn’t really happen, it’s interesting to note that second and third place respectively goes to the 2019 and 2018 edition, with 2017 in fifth.
Live tournament poker is far from dead, this is great to see. We really could see a record attendance in 2021.
There were also a few gripes coming out because of the no doubt increased toughness of the field with Europeans entering the fray. This will definitely upset a few players, especially if a European from the added starting flights pulls off a victory.
