Phil Galfond has announced that Run It Once Poker is launching in the USA today, after it has been taken over by Rush Street Interactive, an American online gaming giant.
The Run It Once Poker platform and team have all been acquired, even Phil Galfond himself, and the product will be integrated into the RSI system.
Phil Galfond Announces Run It Once Launch in USA
When I mentioned that @RunItOncePoker was headed down a path towards the US market, I told you that I’d have more details to share with you in the near future.
Today is the future! 👇🏻

Run It Once Poker’s platform and team, myself included, were acquired by Rush Street Interactive (RSI), with the plan to solidify, enhance, and integrate our software into their platform. (2/6)

Shared Values
Phil Galfond wrote that he spoke to many potential partners over the last 18 months but was most impressed by Rush Streets’s “fair and honest” approach to negotiation.
We spoke with many potential partners over the last 18 months and are very excited to be on team RSI! They share our values: Honesty, integrity, fairness, and transparency – and not only with their players. They stood out to me in the fair and honest way they dealt with us. (3/6)

RIO Poker created a platform that people loved, with features and innovations that the poker world was excited about, but we also heard things like “if only they could iterate on their software faster” or “I’d move all my volume to RIO if they were bigger.” (4/6)

Galfond mentions that a big part of why he could attract more players was simply because the site wasn’t big enough—catch 22!
The software client was universally loved, with many popular innovations, but in the end it wasn’t enough.
Now, the team is ready to harness all the experience of a company that is much bigger, and one that has also built poker software clients in the past.
Well, now we are bigger – much bigger. And now we add to our existing tech team the expertise and experience of those who have built huge poker platforms in the past.
I’m extremely excited about what we’ll be able to accomplish together! (5/6)

As of yet there are no firms plans to launch in the US, but it will happen in the near future, that much looks certain.
Phil Galfond’s Twitter thread has a confident ring to it, and given how demoralising his change of direction must have been at the time, we can assume that the Run It Once brand is once again on the up.
