When PokerStars went offline in New Jersey and Michigan for a while in December to perform the server upgrades necessary to shared online poker liquidity, insiders already expected that move.

This development will change US online poker for the better

This development will change US online poker for the better! For Michigan, combining PokerStars MI player pool with PokerStars NJ marks the official entry and full participation under the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement (MSIGA).

The MSIGA is an inter-jurisdictional compact for online poker and online casino. Michigan joined the MSIGA in May 2022.

With this move PokerStars becomes only the second operator in the United States to share online poker liquidity between four states: Nevada, New Jersey, Delaware and Michigan as well as the first poker site to form a network including Michigan.

PokerStars will now be much stronger competition for other online poker sites such as WSOP.com or BetMGM.

Stars is also encouraging other US states such as Pennsylvania to join the Network as they are considering entering the MSIGA as well.

“We hope that more will follow this great example”

PokerStars US Managing Director Severin Rasset said:

“Michigan and New Jersey joining forces is great news for our players in these two states, and poker, more generally, as it promises a better experience and even more value, all with the confidence provided by a trusted, licensed operator. We worked closely with the regulators of New Jersey and Michigan, and we hope that more will follow this great example.”

Until January 1st 2023 only WSOP.com has been taking advantage of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement.

The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) already issued guidance for online poker sites interested in launching multi-state online poker in March 2023 and they now finally start to earn the fruits of this smart move.
