Americas Cardroom Venom good deed abused by fake cancer poker cheat

The saying ‘No good deed goes unpunished’ was apt enough for Van Morrison to sing about it, and this week Americas Cardroom were hit by their own version – a player faking cancer trying to cash in on CEO Phil Nagy’s generosity, with Chris Moneymaker calling out the cheat named Chris Moore.

ACR offered to stake 6 players for the $5M GTD Venom PKO

Earlier in the week, Phil Nagy – the CEO of Winning Poker Network and the very public face of ACR – had offered to stake six players for the upcoming $5million GTD venom PKO tournament.

The generous offer would see any money won by the lucky half-dozen split 50/50 between the player and breast cancer awareness charities.

“50% goes to breast cancer awareness”

Phil Nagy explained his thinking behind the offer:

“Most who know me will vouch that I love giving people an opportunity and I do my best to support noble causes. I’m looking to stake 6 people to play in this week’s Venom PKO. Profit split: 50% to the player, and 50% goes to breast cancer awareness.”

To win one of the six slots, each receiving a Venom PKO entry worth $2650, hopefuls had to send in a 30-second video entry, Nagy explaining: “Post a video blog of whatever you want that will make me want to stake you. Tag and follow and please RT for awareness! Winners will be chosen on Sept 23rd.

As Chris Moneymaker’s tweet shows, however, there are those who will abuse any and every act of generosity, and apparently lie about it until they are blue in the face.

Chris Moneymaker calling out the Venom cheat Chris Moore

The shyster in question, going by the name “Chris Moore”, even had the audacity to type up a letter pertaining to be from his doctor to back up the cancer claims.

Chris Moneymaker commented on the letter:

“I put in more work faking school absences than this idiot did.”

There were worries, however, that Moore may be suffering from serious mental health issues rather than being the straightforward type of scammer that the poker community often attracts.

That led Moneymaker and Nagy to issue a genuine offer to the person in question…

“I am sorry I did not let someone that has threatened us both win a giveaway by faking cancer”

However, it appears that Moore was simply playing a game, later posting that he was “fucking with them”.

Thankfully, there were plenty of genuine people looking for the opportunity to play the Venom and happy to donate extra to charity should they make the money in the $5million GTD event.

They ranged from the heartrending…

…to the heartfelt…

… to the downright amusing to lift the spirits of those affected by cancer…
